Ireland Teacher Institute

July 17-28, 2006

This is a two-week educational study Institute sponsored by Abilities! in collaboration with the Center for Opportunities and Outcomes for People with Disabilities at Teachers College, Columbia University. Twelve teachers, therapists and administrators from Belfast, Northern Ireland and Dublin, Ireland will join with faculty and staff of Abilities!, the Henry Viscardi School, Kornreich Technology Center and Teachers College (TC) faculty and students in sharing information and “best practices” in areas of assistive and instructional technology, school and community transition with particular emphasis on serving individuals with severe physical disabilities and other health impairments. Abilities! and TC staff will direct a series of field visits, skill development and critical topic sessions during the ten day study activities. Final outcome is to develop an ongoing cooperative working relationship within both the Northern and Southern Ireland targeted areas along with U.S. partners given common areas of interest in professional development and research in special education.
