Raising Money for the Katrina Recovery

After hearing of the devastation wrought by hurricane Katrina, the students of the Henry Viscardi School, along with their families, friends, and school staff, decided to try and raise money for the disaster recovery. On Friday, September 19, they participated in 'HVS Goes the Mile', a fundraising event in which everyone did laps around the track at the JK Kids Park. The new park, a gift from Mr. and Mrs. John Kornreich, had its ribbon cutting ceremony this past summer.

During the event and the following week, HVS raised almost $6,500. The money will be used to help a school for physically and medically challenged students in Louisiana, which needs to replace or repair wheelchairs and other equipment damaged during the storm. In addition to helping children in need, HVS is excited about the relationship it has started to build with this new school.
