Greentree “Good Neighbor” Fund Awards $10,000 to Abilities!

June 17, 2008

Albertson, NY— On June 17th, Abilities! received a grant of $10,000 from the Manhasset Community Fund’s Greentree Foundation Good Neighbor Fund for its Transition Services Summer Program.  This award will be used to provide educational summer field trips for students with disabilities from school districts in the Town of North Hempstead.

The Abilities! Transition Services Summer Program serves approximately 30 students per summer who have a documented disability and would otherwise be homebound, receiving limited programming.  The six-week program incorporates community integration, educational and recreational experience, and travel training (learning to use subways, trains, and buses).   The “Good Neighbor” grant will enable children with disabilities to have the same kinds of opportunities and take the same kinds of field trips as are enjoyed by their peers without disabilities.

MCF’s Greentree Foundation“Good Neighbor” grants are awarded to non-profit organizations for projects that improve the quality of life for residents of the Town of North Hempstead, with emphasis on its underserved communities and populations.
