Family and Consumer Science Laboratory Ribbon Cutting at HVS

September 16, 2008

Albertson, NY –– September 16, 2008.  The Henry Viscardi School (HVS) held a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 16, 2008 to celebrate the complete renovation of the “Family and Consumer Science Laboratory” (formerly known as the Home Economics Room).  HVS students prepared a homemade meal for guests who attended this event.

The Henry Viscardi School provides educational services to over 200 children with severe physical disabilities and rare diseases. The Family and Consumer Science Laboratory will prepare HVS students to function more independently in their home environment.  It provides a far more accessible design and equipment than the original Home Economics room.

Steve and Deborah Sloane of the Scott Sloane Foundation, Inc. donated $40,000 to help fund this project.  Thomas P. DiNapoli secured a $50,000 State grant for the renovation while working as the NYS Assemblymen of District 16.  Assistant Comptroller Joseph Galante attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to represent DiNapoli, who is now the NYS Comptroller.
